Does your pastor do wedding services?
YES! Our pastor, Rev. Scott Elliott, is available to officiate at weddings.
Does your pastor do union blessing services?
YES! Our pastor, Rev. Scott Elliott, is available to officiate at union blessings. Rev. Elliott feels very strongly
that LGBT couples ought to be entitled to the same legal rights as straight couples, and while the law does
not yet provide equal rights in this regard, he believes God always has and always will equally bless such
unions. Consequently Rev. Elliott is available to officiate at union blessings and covenant exchanges
between LGBT adults. While he cannot call these weddings or marriages he believes they are the
equivalent in God’s eyes.
How do we arrange for your pastor to do our wedding or union blessing?
Call our church office (723-3963) and arrange a meeting with Rev. Elliott.
What typically happens after we set up a meeting with the pastor?
Typically the pastor meets with the couple to initially discuss what they are looking for and then works up a
service based on the meeting. A second meeting is then arranged to discuss the service and make any
additions or modifications. After the service is decided upon Rev. Elliott next meets with the wedding party
at the rehearsal and goes through the service to make sure everyone knows where to stand and what to
do. Then at the time and place arranged for the wedding he officiates the wedding or union service.
Can additional meetings be arranged?
Additional meetings and assistance can be arranged.
Is pre-marital counseling available?
Pre-marital counseling can be arranged if desired, but it is usually not required.
What part of the wedding or union blessing is the pastor responsible for?
Rev. Elliott handles the words and order of the service and officiates over the service. Unless otherwise
agreed to in writing the couple is responsible for all other portions of the wedding.
Do we need to be members of your church?
Couples need not be members of Riviera United Church of Christ to have Rev. Elliott officiate at their
wedding or union blessing or to use the church facilities.
Can we hold the Wedding or Union Blessing at Riviera United Church of Christ?
In addition to Rev. Elliott’s services, Riviera United Church of Christ has a beautiful church sanctuary and
outdoor areas for your wedding or union ceremony.
Will the pastor perform the ceremony outside of the church?
Rev. Elliott will perform wedding and union blessings service at our church or in another location the couple
chooses and arranges with the pastor.
What are the fees?
For non-members the pastor’s honorarium for a usual wedding or blessing held within 10 miles of the
church is $220. Additional costs will be charged for weddings and unions that require further travel or time
beyond the normal two meetings, a rehearsal and the wedding. If the wedding is held at Riviera United
Church of Christ, non-members are required to pay all applicable space usage and personnel fees. (See

Note: If your event does not begin on time, there is a $25 fee added to each extra half hour.
If the pastor travels more than 10 miles from RUCC, additional fees may apply.
